Natures Pond – it’s a family affair
Welcome to the Natures Pond family! Many of you are already familiar with our awesome products such as our soothing Healing Balm and our fabulous Wild Lily Moisturiser. The purpose of this blog is to give you an insight into our beautiful home-grown company. A ‘behind the scenes’ tour, if you will, to help us get to know each other better and explore new collaborations.
So, how did it all begin?
A few years ago my daughter was diagnosed with psoriasis along with a (not so short) list of allergies. Spurred on by finding a natural solution to her skin issues, Natures Pond was born. We haven’t looked back since! From product ideas to production and despatch, it all happens on our very own lifestyle block in Northland.
What’s in a name?
As anyone with a business idea will tell you, one of the hardest parts is choosing a fitting name for your new business. Every name we came up with was rejected for one reason or another. Then suddenly, in a moment of clarity, it came to me. While I sat sipping my kawakawa tea and admiring our beautiful lily-filled pond, Natures Pond became the obvious name choice for our business. At last we could forged ahead with our branding.
Who’s who in Natures Pond
Well, for a start there’s me – Sally – product developer, creative driving force and Mama Bear behind the business. Then there’s Amber, my beautiful daughter, an indispensable team member who is always happy to lend a hand and take up the reigns when I take a rare holiday. Of course, we wouldn’t get by without our expanding social media presence, and for this we have the lovely Lauren to thank. So, as you can see, Natures Pond is a family affair built on love and passion for the products and their amazing results.
Taking ‘grow your own’ to a whole new level
I’ve always loved the great outdoors and growing my own plants and produce. In many ways, Natures Pond is a realisation of a lifelong dream and turning a passion into a business. What’s that saying, ‘find a job that you love and never work a day in your life.’ Yup, it’s true! I love my job. The beginning of the process sees us growing the plants needed for the products. These include four New Zealand Native plants - kawakawa, manuka, kanuka and tarata. The plants are then carefully infused into our carrier oil ready for production and packaging.
Packaging – it does what it says on the tin!
No gimmicks or slogans! We keep our packaging and labelling simple, just like our products. All the ingredients are clearly listed and there are no hidden nasties. We lovingly package and label everything by hand in our own on-site workshop. At this time of year, it’s a little like Santa’s workshop; I draft in lots of willing elves in the form of family members and friends to help out. Many hands make light work, as they say!
To market
Once our products are of the highest standard our valued customers expect from Natures Pond, we distribute them via markets, our website and through on- and off-line retailers. View our list of current stockists here: https://naturespond.nz/pages/nz-native-skincare
We’re always looking for new and exciting ways to get our products to the people that need them, and we’re forging new collaborations all the time. Please get in touch if you’d like to learn more about Natures Pond or collaborate with us.
Signing off with soothing care, Sally x
